About Mary

Mary's current series, Woodgrain Paintings, derive from the contradictions in her life; from her formative years spent cloistered in a hand-hewn family cottage, to taking up a lavish lifestyle in Europe. The abrupt moves, disquieting physically, culturally, and emotionally, altered her artistic voyage and inspired her new series of oil paintings, reminiscent of wood grain, soothing with their familiarity, yet radical in their dispositions.

"When I'm sufficiently fascinated by the space and tension between growth rings, I'll record this quietly outrageous event of nature. Woodgrain Paintings bring great satisfation to me. The universal appeal of the series has been delightful but not surprising."
